Magic’s Marvel Future Gets Darker: Darkhold Destiny Arrives in April 2027

Magic’s next Marvel chapter has a darker direction. Wizards of the Coast has announced Magic: The Gathering | Marvel: Darkhold Destiny, a Universes Beyond set that releases on April 9, 2027. What catches my attention is that this is not only a collection of familiar Marvel faces, it is built around a new original story made with Marvel and Magic’s Narrative team.

The set heads into the supernatural side of Marvel, with the Darkhold, the Dark Dimension, gods, witches, vampires, and Magik. Wizards says the story begins with a new Marvel Comics release in February 2027, followed by a physical release in April, before the cards put that dimension-hopping tale into players’ hands. For me, that makes this feel like an invitation to follow one story across both comics and Magic.

I’ll be watching for the first card reveals, especially the promised Commander decks, Scene Boxes, and Booster Fun treatments. The trend is clear: Universes Beyond is moving beyond simple crossover recognition toward stories designed to have a Magic identity of their own. If you collect Marvel cards or enjoy Magic’s eerie fantasy side, this is one release I would put on my 2027 watchlist.
